<p><b>Abstract:</b> <span>In the first seminar we will present the concepts of pre-Lie   algebra, dendriform algebra, (quasitriangular) infinitesimal bialgebra,   Rota-Baxter operator, and various relations between these concepts. For   instance, we will show how to obtain a pre-Lie algebra from an   infinitesimal bialgebra and a dendriform algebra from a quasitriangular   infinitesimal bialgebra. </span></p>

<p><b>Abstract:</b> In the second seminar we will recall the definition of Rota-Baxter operators (introduced in the first seminar) and present some of their properties, some examples and structure theorems.</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Abstract: <span>La  teoria dell'instabilità lineare porta a testare la risposta dinamica di  una soluzione stazionaria delle equazioni del moto di un fluido  rispetto a perturbazioni con piccola ampiezza. L'usuale procedura si  basa sulla dinamica dei modi normali con assegnato numero d'onda.  Attraverso tale studio si ottengono le</span><span> usuali informazioni </span><span>relativ</span><span>e  alla condizione di stabilità marginale ed alle condizioni critiche per  l'instabilità. La dinamica dei pacchetti d'onda di perturbazione  consente lo studio di casi in cui il disturbo della soluzione base  presenta una localizzazione nello spazio e fornisce diverse condizioni  per l'innesco dell'l'instabilità rispetto a quelle ottenute attraverso  lo studio dei modi normali. Tali condizioni prendono il nome di soglia  per l'instabilità assoluta. Il concetto di instabilità assoluta viene  illustrato partendo da semplici esempi basati sull'equazione di Burgers e  l'equazione di Cahn-Hilliard. Saranno inoltre brevemente descritte  alcune recenti ricerche relative alla fluidodinamica nei materiali  porosi.</span></p>]]></content:encoded>

<div>In the context of international nuclear  safeguards, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recently  approved passive gamma emission tomography (PGET) as a method for  inspecting spent nuclear fuel assemblies (SFAs). The PGET instrument is  essentially a single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) system  that allows the reconstruction of axial cross-sections of the emission  map of SFA. The fuel material heavily self-attenuates its gamma-ray  emissions, so that correctly accounting for the attenuation is a  critical factor in producing accurate images. Due to the nature of the  inspections, it is desirable to use as little a priori information as  possible about the fuel, including the attenuation map, in the  reconstruction process. Current reconstruction methods either do not  correct for attenuation, assume a uniform attenuation throughout the  fuel assembly, or assume an attenuation map based on an initial filtered  back-projection reconstruction. We propose a method to simultaneously  reconstruct the emission and attenuation maps by formulating the  reconstruction as a constrained minimization problem with a least  squares data fidelity term and regularization terms. Using simulated  data, we show that our approach produces clear reconstructions which  allow for a highly reliable classification of spent, missing, and fresh  fuel rods.</div>]]></content:encoded>

<div>On the Apéry algorithm for a plane singularity</div>

<p><span dir="ltr">Abstract:</span><br /><span dir="ltr">A classical tool to get numerical invariants of a curve singularity is the study of its value</span><br /><span dir="ltr">semigroup. In case of a one branch singularity this semigroup is a numerical semigroup</span><br /><span dir="ltr">(i.e. a submonoid of</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">N</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">with finite complement in it); in case the singularity has</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">h</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">branches,</span><br /><span dir="ltr">this semigroup is a subsemigroup of</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">N</span><span dir="ltr">h</span><span dir="ltr">, belonging to the class of the so-called ”good semi-</span><br /><span dir="ltr">groups”. Despite their name, the combinatoric of good semigroups is quite problematic;</span><br /><span dir="ltr">moreover, for</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">h</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">≥</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">2, it is an open problem to understand which good semigroups can be</span><br /><span dir="ltr">realized as value semigroups.</span><br /><span dir="ltr">In case of a plane singularity with one branch, an old result of Ap ́</span><span dir="ltr">ery shows that there</span><br /><span dir="ltr">is a particularly strict connection between the value semigroups of the singularity and</span><br /><span dir="ltr">of its blowup; this connection is obtained using a particular set of generators of the</span><br /><span dir="ltr">semigroup, named ”Ap ́</span><span dir="ltr">ery set”.</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">In fact, using that result, it is possible to show very</span><br /><span dir="ltr">easily, that the equisingularity classes given by the multiplicity sequence and by the</span><br /><span dir="ltr">value semigroup coincide. In particular, this method allows to reconstruct the numerical</span><br /><span dir="ltr">semigroup associated to a plane branch singularity starting from the multiplicity sequence.</span><br /><span dir="ltr">When the singularity has more than one branch, in order to generalize the Ap ́</span><span dir="ltr">ery result,</span><br /><span dir="ltr">two main problems arise: firstly, the Ap ́</span><span dir="ltr">ery set becomes an infinite set; secondly, in the</span><br /><span dir="ltr">process of blowing-up it is necessary to deal with semilocal rings, that cannot be presented</span><br /><span dir="ltr">as quotients of a power series ring in two variables, as it happens in the local case. These</span><br /><span dir="ltr">problems where partially solved twenty years ago in the two branch case, but the general</span><br /><span dir="ltr">case is still open.</span><br /><span dir="ltr">In my talk, after describing some key definitions and results on value semigroups and</span><br /><span dir="ltr">good semigroups of a curve singularity with</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">h</span><span dir="ltr"> </span><span dir="ltr">branches, I will explain explaining the</span><br /><span dir="ltr">Ap ́</span><span dir="ltr">ery process for a plane branch and then, I will present some recent results obtained in</span><br /><span dir="ltr">a joint project with F. Delgado de la Mata, L. Guerrieri, N. Maugeri and V. Micale, that</span><br /><span dir="ltr">are a significant progress toward a complete solution of this problem.</span></p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Abstract: Gale correspondence provides a duality         between sets of n points in projective spaces of dimension s and         r when n=r+s+2. For small values of s, this duality has a         remarkable geometric manifestation: the blowup of a projective         space of dimension r at n points can be realized as a moduli         space of vector bundles on the blowup of a projective space of         dimension s at the Gale dual points. We explore this realization         to describe the birational geometry of blowups of projective         spaces at points in very general position.</p>]]></content:encoded>
