<p>title: <b>Dynamical degrees and entropy</b>.</p>
<p>Abstract: Dynamical degrees describe the growth rate of the iterates of a meromomorphic self-maps on a compact Kahler manifold. The notion of entropy is another way to measure the  complexity of a map. The two notions are deeply related. I will discuss some recent results and examples relating these two notions and equidistribution problems.</p>

<p><br /> Which canonically embedded curves are hyperplane sections of K3<br /> surfaces? In the first work, following conjectures of Wahl, Mukai and<br /> Voisin, we give a complete characterization of curves which are hyperplane<br /> sections of  K3 surfaces (or of limits of such). This involves proving<br /> two conjectures stated by Wahl in 1997.</p>
<p><br /> In the second work we we find an explicit  family of  curves, of any<br /> given genus, satisfying the Brill-Noether-Petri condition.</p>]]></content:encoded>

These arise as limits of<br /> extremals of Poincare-type inequalities in Sobolev spaces. In particular, we will<br /> explain that in a convex polygon, the points where an ∞-ground state does not<br /> satisfy the ∞-Laplace Equation are characterized: they are restricted to lie on<br /> specific curves, which are acting as attracting streamlines. The gradient is <br />contin uous outside these curves and no streamlines can meet there. <br />Some consequences will be discussed.</p>

<div>Computer  algebra involves developing algorithms to carry out exact computations  involving algebraic structures. Quandles are algebraic structures that  can benefit from the help of computational tools and attention from the  community, much like groups. This project introduces a modern tool able  to work with quandles: congruences, subuniverses, isomorphisms, and  monomorphisms, among others; built on the solid mathematical foundations  of the most recent developments in Quandle Theory, and Universal  Algebra as well as computational tools that withstood the test of time  such as Magma and Rig and modern ones such as CREAM, it is able to  obtain useful results at a competitive speed. As an example, it will be  shown how to compute and visualise connections among connected quandles.</div>
<div>A new algorithm for computing the congruences of connected quandles, based on the work of dr. Marco Bonatto, will be introduced.</div>

<p><b>The interferometric imager of the Large Binocular Telescope: a challenge for image reconstruction methods – Mario Bertero</b></p>
<p>The Large Binocular Telescope is an innovative instrument consisting of two 8.4m mirrors on the same mount. This structure allows Fizeau interferometry which can provide true images of an astronomical target. However the resolution of a single image is anisotropic so that one must acquire different images with different orientations of the astronomical target in order to produce, by means of image reconstruction method, a unique image with the best resolution in all directions.<br />The first interferometric images of LBT were obtained during the night of December 24, 2013. The target was Io, one of the four Astri Medicei discovered by Galilei in 1610 and characterized by a strong volcanic activity.<br />In the lecture, after a short description of LBT, the difficulties in reconstructing a satisfactory image of Io are discussed and a new method for obtaining such a result is proposed.</p>

<p><b>Sequential Monte Carlo and particle methods in inverse problems – Daniela Calvetti</b></p>
<p>In sequential Monte Carlo methods, the posterior distribution of an unknown of interest is explored in a sequential manner, by updating the Monte Carlo sample as new data arrive. In a similar fashion, particle filtering encompasses different sampling techniques to track the time course of a probability density that evolves in time based on partial observations of it. Methods that combine particle filters and sequential Monte Carlo have been developed for some time, mostly in connection with estimating unknown parameters in stochastic differential equations. In this talk, we present some new ideas suitable for treating large scale, non-stochastic, severely stiff systems of differential equations combining sequential Monte Carlo methods with classical numerical analysis concepts.</p>

<p><b>A hierarchical Krylov-Bayes iterative solver for MEG inverse problems - Erkki Somersalo</b></p>
<p>The inverse problem of MEG aims at estimating electromagnetic cerebral activity from measured magnetic fields outside the head. After formulating the problem within the Bayesian framework, a hierarchical conditionally Gaussian prior model in introduced, and point estimates of the solution are computed using an iterative alternating sequential (IAS) updating algorithm, coupled with a Krylov subspace iterative linear solver equipped with statistically inspired preconditioning and a suitable termination rule. A physiologically inspired preconditioned that takes into account the preferred directions of the brain activity is introduces, and the sensitivity scaling widely used in the literature is formulated in terms of an empirical Bayes technique. Extensive studies based on simulated single time slice and time series data clearly show the sensitivity of the computed solutions to the physiological preconditioner and to the parameters of the hyperprior, in particular in the case of focal activity.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p><b>F.A.R.D. (Formule e Algoritmi: Roba da Donne)</b><span> </span>è l’iniziativa del<span> </span><b>Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica</b><span> </span>sulla parità di genere in ambito<span> </span><b>STEM</b><span> </span>(Scienza, Tecnologia, Ingegneria e Matematica).</p>
<p>Un’intera giornata per lasciarsi ispirare <span>dalle donne che hanno  avuto successo in ambito STEM, per rendere il settore più inclusivo ed  attrattivo per la comunità femminile. </span><span>Obiettivo del progetto, rivolto a <b>tutta la comunità</b>,  è quello di limitare la tendenza a sottovalutare la predisposizione  delle donne per le materie scientifiche e dare quindi luogo al  diffondersi di pregiudizi e stereotipi sul tema.</span></p>
<p>Al mattino viene dato spazio ad attività culturali come la proiezione del film “<b>Il Diritto di Contare</b>”, la presentazione del fumetto “<b>Mirzakhani issue</b>” e la visita della mostra “<b>Donne e Matematica</b>”.  Al pomeriggio i presenti sono invitati a partecipare ad un dibattito  scientifico e ad assistere ad una tavola rotonda con testimonianze, per  riflettere ed individuare strategie sul superamento del divario di  genere.</p>
<p>L'iniziativa si svolge in collaborazione con Notte dei Ricercatori,  CNA, Rotary Ferrara Est, Confindustria Emilia Centro, Lettera 150,  Legacoop, Unione Donne in Italia UDI e<span><span> rientra nell'ambito della <b><a href="https://www.unife.it/public-engagement">rassegna Unife per il Public engagement</a></b>.</span></span></p>

<div>Abstract:</div>
<p><span>In  1982 L.C. Evans and N.V. Krylov proved interior a priori second  derivatives estimates in Hölder spaces for fully nonlinear second  order  uniformly elliptic equations under the main assumption that  the  operator is either concave or convex in the Hessian variable.  Since  then, a remarkable question in the theory is to determine which  hypotheses on the operator in between convexity/concavity and no  assumptions ensure that solutions to general second  order fully  nonlinear equations are classical. In this direction, N. Nadirashvili  and  S. Vladut exhibited counterexamples in dimension higher than or  equal  to 5 to show that the sole uniform ellipticity is in general  not  enough to reach classical regularity. Despite this progress,  the  minimal assumptions guaranteeing classical regularity are unknown,  and  the above question has remained largely open.</span><span><br /></span><span>After  a review of the regularity theory for fully nonlinear  equations, I  will discuss some advances on the Evans-Krylov theory and show how to  prove interior  C^{2,alpha} and C^{1,1} regularity for elliptic and  parabolic problems  under the assumption that the operator is  quasi-concave/convex. I will also consider interior estimates for  functionals that are concave/convex or “close to a hyperplane”  at  infinity as well as C^{2,alpha} parabolic regularity in dimension 3  or under Cordes assumptions on the ellipticity. The approach is based  on  linearization arguments and Bernstein methods.  I will conclude with  some consequences about the Calderón-Zygmund regularity of solutions to  (fully nonlinear) second order Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman/Isaacs equations  with power-growth gradient terms and discuss the relation with  a conjecture posed by P.-L. Lions.</span></p>

<p>Network  dynamics preserves the sum of all incoming pairwise coupling strengths  and is designed to adaptively interact with system dynamics.For  adaptive couplings, we use two adaptive coupling laws for the pairwise  coupling strength. Kuramoto oscillators are assumed to be on the nodes  of the networks.</p>

<p>We present frameworks that guarantee the emergence of  synchronization for various coupling feedback laws. Our results  generalize earlier work on the synchronization of Kuramoto oscillators  in fixed and symmetric networks.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p><span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">In this talk I will survey the most important aspects in automated reasoning over temporal logics, and in particular interval-based ones - ITLs. In ITLs properties are defined over extended intervals of time, instead of points, giving rise to a huge variety of syntactical as well as semantical possibilities. While reasoning in ITLs is generally very difficult, as their satisfiability problems are often undecidable, I will focus on those interesting exceptions that have been found in the last 15 years of research, and try to point out the different ideas and stratiegies that have been proven useful in searching for computationally well-behaved ITLs. I will also try to give a sufficiently clear idea on how ITLs can be applied, and how the research in this sense is still very much active.</span></p>]]></content:encoded>
